Biography

From early childhood Bob Dooley has always been inspired by the worldaround him and has enjoyed drawing and painting. He has a naturalaptitude for achieving a likeness of what he observes about people andnature and expresses those details using a contemporary style ofrealism.
During the eighties Bob created a series of 40 graphite pencilreproductions of Norman Rockwell pictures. This process taught him howto do the initial sketches needed to create his paintings. He hascontinued to use that process. For his artwork now, he first makes alight pencil sketch to resolve issues of positive and negative space andthen paints over them.
Most of his subjects are of nature, which has been described asinspirational and healing, with a superb sense of vibrancy and attentionto detail.
Primarily self-taught, Bob has acquired many skills from watching artdocumentaries and YouTube videos on artistic techniques. He isespecially fascinated by the works of Dutch masters and Renaissance art.
Bob became a full-time artist in 2020. In 2023 he received a SpecialRecognition Art Award from Renee Phillips, Director and Founder ofManhattan Arts International, NYC, NY. She discovered his art whencurating “The Healing Power of Elements: Earth, Water, Air & Fire”juried exhibition.
